Annual General Assembly Report – Lebanese Actors Syndicate

On Sunday, November 28, 2021, the Lebanese Actors Syndicate held its annual general assembly at Sunflower Theater – Tayouneh, with significant attendance from the artistic community despite the country’s ongoing health and social challenges.

The session began with the Lebanese national anthem and a moment of silence to honor the departed members. A large screen displayed the agenda at center stage, which included:

  1. Annual Statement

  2. Future Projects

  3. Financial Report

  4. Final Accounts Approval

  5. Discharge of the Board

  6. Freezing and Expulsion of Members

  7. Setting the Annual Subscription Fee

  8. Scheduling the General Elections

President Nehme Badawi presented the Council’s key achievements during his term, including:

  • Finalization of the Syndicate’s new internal regulations

  • Continued meetings with artistic syndicates to secure the professional artist law

  • A 2019 agreement with the American Diagnostic Center offering full coverage for insured members and major discounts for others

  • Preparations for the Syndicate’s 70th anniversary celebration at Casino du Liban, to be attended by 600 members and the three Lebanese presidents

  • Full enrollment of senior members into the unified artist mutual fund at no cost

  • Quiet distribution of food and medicine to members in need

  • Chronic medication support from Omnipharma for a full year

  • Social health benefits via the Lebanese Army and Ministry of Health

  • Revival of the syndicate ID card through Minister Jamil Jabak (previously approved by Minister Wael Abou Faour)

  • Support and enforcement of dubbing rights with studios

  • Participation in the Arab National Theatre Festival (Sharjah – UAE), Antoine Kerbage Edition

  • Japanese artists’ donation after the Beirut Port blast – medical and financial aid totaling LBP 120 million

  • Posthumous medal for the late Houssam El Sabbah and naming a street after him in Nabatieh

For upcoming projects, the president highlighted:

  • Ongoing lobbying for the artist’s professional law

  • A new healthcare partnership with the NGO "Ayadi Nass"

  • Preparation for the Lebanese Artist Retirement Home on a 3,000 sqm plot of land

Treasurer Mr. Osama Shaaban presented the financial report, which was approved, and the council was officially discharged. Annual dues were set at LBP 120,000 and the syndicate ID at LBP 30,000.

General elections for twelve council seats were scheduled for Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Syndicate’s headquarters.

The assembly unanimously voted to freeze the membership of individuals pending legal regularization and expel those who abandoned the profession, emigrated, or failed to comply with Article 13 of the bylaws.
The session concluded with a Q&A session for attending members before being adjourned.
