The Passing of Poet and Cultural Leader Bilal Sharara
With deep sorrow and great respect, the Lebanese Actors' Syndicate mourns the loss of the esteemed poet, writer, and intellectual Bilal Sharara, President of the Cultural Movement in Lebanon, and a beloved figure in the literary and artistic community.
The late Sharara was a unique voice and a steadfast supporter of creative talent across generations. Known for his kindness, humility, and unwavering commitment to culture, he leaves behind a lasting legacy that shaped Lebanese intellectual life for over five decades.
His daughter, Abeer Sharara, mourned him with these heartfelt words:
"Papa… you, the jeweler of words… I love you as much as the world, life, and death."
In a public statement, Nehme Badawi, President of the Lebanese Actors' Syndicate, wrote:
"Bilal Sharara — the poet, writer, and lifelong advocate for the rights of artists and creatives in Lebanon — has left us.
On behalf of myself and all artistic unions in Lebanon, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and to the cultural community at large.
May his soul rest in peace, and may we all find comfort in the immense impact he left behind."
In a personal reflection, Badawi added:
"Bilal held the reins of culture for five decades. He was a rare voice who opened space for every sincere word and every creative spark.
Bint Jbeil, his hometown, will forever carry his name like a banner of pride — waiting for him to return on the horse of poetry, bearing the flag of feeling and memory."
