Syndicate statement on the honoring of Mohammad Ramadan

Beirut, August 26, 2021

Statement

Online news outlets have circulated what Egyptian actor and singer Mohammad Ramadan published about an honor he received in Beirut — specifically at a festival named "Afdal International," held at Casino du Liban under the patronage of the Lebanese Ministry of Culture, the "Syndicate of Theater, Radio and Television Actors" and the Syndicate of Music and Singing Professionals in Lebanon — where he was granted the title "Ambassador of Arab Youth," while the German International Center in Beirut awarded him an honorary doctorate in acting and vocal performance.

The Syndicate of Theater, Cinema, Radio and Television Actors in Lebanon (the Syndicate of Actors) wishes to make clear to the Lebanese, Egyptian and Arab public that it took no part in this honoring, neither from near nor from far, and that it is not the authority entitled to grant the title of ambassador or any other title. The Syndicate of Actors in Lebanon — the mother syndicate and the first of its kind in Lebanon and the Arab world since its founding in 1948 — further declares that it has never granted any title to any Lebanese or Arab artist in its history. We therefore reject dragging our syndicate's name and history into superficial, ceremonial affairs: our constant course has been to defend and support the Lebanese actor, and to maintain the best relations with our sister Arab syndicates.
